紅く染めた裾を長くたなびかせ、山藍で染めた着物をきて、あの子はただ一人橋を渡っていきます。
若い夫がいるのでしょうか、それとも独りで夜を過ごすのでしょうか。
A girl in a robe dyed with wild indigo, Mercurialis leiocarpa (YAMAAI) is crossing over the bridge alone. As she is walking down her red and long trail skirt is peeking out behind the robe. The color contrasting catches the poet’s mind and makes him wonder if she has a young husband, or if she sleeps alone at night.
